Level 1- Complete beginners welcome. Ideal as intermediate refresher or to gain further experience.

Brief Course Outline  Level 1

Acting For Camera Course 1 Course Code 345- Covered within 6 weeks.

1: Focus & Relaxation- Preparing to be natural & comfortable in front of the camera & crew

2: Acting For Film & TV- Practically exploring the differences

3: Shooting Thoughts- How an actor projects thought & emotion that are effectively captured by the camera

4: Creating a character- Where to start and how to develop

5: Voice & Movement- How voice can reveal & enhance character. Exploring effective ways to move in character that translate well on screen.

6: Scene Study- Using pre-selected material to help experiment with filmed scenes. 

7: Understanding Framing.

8: Understanding crew roles, on set expectations and working practice.

9: Acting for the Camera- How to work in front of the lens, hit marks, use eyelines & create fresh performances every take, listening to and working with direction.

10: Method- Considering and experimenting with Stanislavski's System, Strasberg’s Method & Meisner's Approach

11: Film Craft- Introducing students to the vocabulary of filmmaking so that actors can confidently communicate with directors and crew.

12: Project- Rehearsal & Practice Shoot

13: Tutor feedback

Includes class notes, handouts, script materials and online class support.

Optional Extras

 

The following additional options can be purchased towards the end of your course and arranged with your course tutor. They are not included in the course fee as they are designed for individual students as add-ons only.

Optional Filming Hours £55 per actor. 

Option to purchase personally edited mini-show reel from royalty free screen play material and filmed footage,  £75 per actor.

Online Presentation Screening- Private access- Password protected.

Showreels cannot be ordered until after editing and an official and final online screening of your work.

Wednesdays- 7.30pm-9pm

Level 2- Please note that this course is considerably more challenging than Level 1 and focuses upon experiential learning with tutor's guidance. Students must have completed level 1 to attend or demonstrate an equivalence of competency at application as students will quickly move into project work.

Additional Commitment 

2 Weekend filming days

( towards the end or directly after the course ) 

2 Online production meetings during course totalling 1 hours.

Brief Course Outline Level 2

 

 Acting For Camera Course Level 2 Course Code 425 covered across 6 weeks, production meetings and filming days

1: Individual Feedback based upon Level 1 or previous screen work.

2: Working under pressure- Being ready, professionalism, efficiency, set etiquette- Working as part of a cohesive team.

3: Exploring Skill Sets- Other types of screen acting employment and emerging opportunities within the industry. 

4: Understanding expectations- Considering crew members perspective and needs. Actors to require further understanding of a crew member’s role and how to make this relationship more productive. 

5: Creation of a Short Film

( 30 mins max ) as a group project with guidance from tutors.

6: Script choice, script edit and casting

7: Project- Pre-production as a group

8: Project- Rehearsal – Blocking Actors & Camera

9: Project Shoot

10: Project-Edit & Post production as a group

11: Project- Tutor Feedback.

Shooting Days- Short Film Course Project – Scheduled for weekend or evening shoots. Dates to be announced once cast availability has been ascertained and confirmed. Maximum filming hours 16 hours.

 

Weekend dates ideally will fall after the course has completed in April, within 10 miles of the course venue. Dependant upon script choices shooting days may involve both indoor and outdoor filming ( weather permitting ). Although involvement within shooting days is not mandatory, please consider proposed shooting dates and your availability prior to booking. Ideally shooting dates will fall no later than 3 months after the course has completed, depending on cast availability.
